Source : Calanus® Oil has been extracted from the marine zooplankter Calanus finmarchicus, harvested while feeding on phytoplankton in pristine Arctic waters.
Composition : Calanus® Oil contains the essential omega-3 fatty acids EPA, DHA and SDA as monoesters bound to the fatty alcohols C:20 omega-9 and C22:1 omega-11, Nature’s most stable and energy dense source of lipid. The oil contains also a high level of the natural antioxidant astaxanthin, which gives the oil its ruby colour, as well as plant sterols.
Processing : Calanus® Oil has been extracted without the use of potentially hazardous solvents. Calanus® Oil has therefore the same composition and blend of essential lipid nutrients as that offered by Nature. Due to the gentle processing methods used, Calanus® Oil, is very resistant to oxidative break-down.

Calanus® Powder and Calanus® Hydrolysate
Source : Calanus® Powder and Calanus® Hydrolysate are fresh and crispy meals obtained from the marine zooplankter Calanus finmarchicus, harvested while feeding on phytoplankton in pristine Arctic waters.
Composition : After processing and removal of lipids (oil) from Calanus finmarchicus, the remaining liquid protein-fraction may either be co-dried with the mineral rich fraction (shell) to provide Calanus® Powder, or further processed, concentrated and co-dried with other (non-Calanus) agents to provide Calanus® Hydrolysate. Both products have an intense and pleasant crab- or lobster-like taste.
Use as food ingredients : Calanus® Powder and Calanus® Hydrolysate may be used as flavor ingredients in formulated foods or dishes such as e.g. seafood soups or chowders; noodle-dishes, whenever a seafood or “crab- or lobster-like” taste is desired. The very pleasant smell and taste differ from that of any other marine flavour ingredients on the market today.
Use in aquaculture : Calanus finmarchicusis the “engine” of the ecosystem in the North Atlantic, constituting a complete blend of all the essential nutrients required by fish, in addition to appetite stimulants, attractants, pigments and other components of importance for healthy growth and development of especially larval and juvenile fishes.
Packaging, minimum order quantity and price : The products are packed in 20 kg cardboard boxes with PE-liner, or sealed bags. Frozen Calanus : Calanus AS may supply whole, frozen Calanus finmarchicus for direct use e.g. in aquaculture and for aquarium fishes, or as a raw material for further processing.
